Hi all.I went to the range last week with my trusted Automag III In 30 Cal. Carbine and put about 50 rounds down the pipe Bulleye shooting at 25 Yards, after about the third shot the guy that was standing next to me said, ' Holy crap, what the hell was that ' I knew just what he was talking about, that sucker puts a 12 to 15 inch flame out of It's 6-3/8' Brl. When fired, I have heard it before, I even let others shoot it so that I could see just what they were talking about. It's not extra loud by any means! It's not a very good defense pistol, no knock down power, that was always the cry with the M1 Carbine, Way to many people that were shot with them were able to return fire, that was one of the reasond the Marines did away with them In Korea, they also froze up In the cold weather! But that Automag III is a fun gun to shoot.Semper FI all.
The Auto-mag III was introduced in 1992 and manufactured until 2001. It is a stainless steel, eight shot semi-automatic with white outline Millett adjustable rear sight, grooved black composite Lexan grips, 43 oz., single action patterned after the Colt 1911.
I had the great opportunity to get one of these little beauties a few yearsago. It was sitting, unpretentiously in the consignment rack of a gunstoreI had visited for a completely different reason. After shooting it a few times ( factory, surplus and reloads) it never gave meso much as a hiccup or failed to go bang. And it was fairly accurate toboot! I would bust apples and dirt clods out to 50 yards when my eyeslet me! I bought it on a whim, and (unfortunately) sold it for the samereasons. As far as self defense.
Can't argue with numbers. As has been stated, while not a huge bore size, it makes up for that in raw speed! I would feelneither undergunned, nor tepid if carry it for SD.What I thought ( and still do ) interesting, is the ability of it to shoot andfeed the longer cartridge. Now, THAT was real innovation. While we get a bunch of whiz-bang plastic pistols today, rarely is therea true 'break-thru'. Just another 'shell' of a frame that does the same.
Hi all.If I take this AMT Automag III out once a year Is't a lot, I ported this pistol some time back and I think of It as a fun gun to shoot, I was looking for some HP slugs for It and also a set of dies for my Dillon 550B but every one was out do the this ammo hoarding!!! I'm not going to argue the point of how much better it Is than the 380ACP or 38 Spl.
But it is also not a pocket gun with it's 6-3/6'Brl. And very large grips, for the same reason I don't think of my Desert Eagle AE50 or my North American 22 short revolver as a defense weapon and I'm also not looking forward to beening shot with any of them, even the 22 short, thank you very much If I happen to see a couple of boxes of 30 cal. Carbine ammo some place, I'll pick It up, I have on hand at last count about 500 rounds left of the 110 Gr. I have dumped the idea of reloading for It, I don't shoot It that much to justify the cost of dies and shell casings.
Like I said, a fun gun!!!As for how well it shoots, I don't have any problems with It, I keep it clean & wet before I go to the range & after always, I have three, In new cond. Fo it, that I take good care of. I have found over the years that most, but not all! Feeding problems are due to bad mags.
I have over 40 hand guns which 11 are revolvers and the rest a semi autos, so needless to say I have over the many years collected a lot mags. For them, allmost as bad as the holster dept. The older but finner people ( Like fine wine ) know what I mean. Now you younger people just hold on, I'm not saying better, I'm saying finer, And also maybe a little cracked, if the shoe fits wear itSemper FI all.
